Grassroots Suicide Prevention for Croydon
Welcome to our in-person event where we'll be discussing all things related to suicide prevention in Croydon. Join us for an informative and interactive workshop, and a chance to connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable young people who are struggling with mental health.
This course takes a trauma-informed, recovery, strength-based approach to suicide prevention.
By the end of the day, you will be able to:
- Examine some of your attitudes about suicide
- Explain what being trauma-informed means in this context
- List a range of factors that might increase the risk of suicide in young people
- Discuss the validity of suicide-risk screening tools
- Identify potential warning signs that a young person might be at risk of suicide
- Discuss the principles of working with a YP to prevent suicide
- List potential barriers to stable engagement and ways of addressing these
- Determine appropriate levels of support and deploy appropriate technology such as the Stay Alive app
- Practice engaging a young person in a conversation about suicide using a framework
- Collaborate with a young person to help them develop a safety plan using a scenario
- Discuss the impact of such work and construct ways of increasing staff resilience
